Working in Serbia from Sri Lanka: a candidate’s guide

For a useful first enquiry, give your nationality, current country of residence, preferred occupation and recent experience. Ask which employer and role are available for your circumstances. A country appearing in a programme catalogue does not mean every applicant qualifies for that destination.

For Serbia, the published candidate service fee is €3,450. This is a private service price. Before paying, request an itemised offer covering included work, extra expenses, payment stages and cancellation terms. Recruitment and fee rules in your home country also need to be checked for the arrangement offered to you.

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment states that Sri Lankans leaving for employment abroad must register with the bureau before departure. Its registration pages explain the current documents and online process. Check the requirements for your contract and role directly with SLBFE; approval of a Serbian visa does not complete this separate registration.

• Keep passport names consistent with certificates and work records, including the order of initials and full names. Explain variations before the application is prepared.
• Ask SLBFE which registration, training and insurance requirements apply to your situation and who is responsible for the related costs.
• Keep an understandable copy of the employment contract and support contacts with you. Confirm the work location and arrival arrangements with the employer.

The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists a visa requirement for ordinary Sri Lanka passports. Passport type and personal circumstances can affect the applicable entry rule. Check the official country visa page before applying.

Serbia’s official portal explains that an employment-based Visa D can authorise residence and work for up to 180 days. A longer employment stay may require a single residence-and-work permit. The correct route and documents depend on the employment basis and your circumstances.

Employer selection, application preparation and an official visa decision are different stages. Complete the required permissions before travelling for work; a payment or draft invitation is not an approval.

Keep your own email and account access. Do not send a password or one-time security code to an agent, employer or support contact. Upload identity documents through your protected candidate account.

Can I skip SLBFE registration if I found the employer myself?

SLBFE’s published registration requirement applies to Sri Lankans leaving for employment abroad. Check the appropriate registration route directly with the bureau, including when you obtained the offer yourself.

Does the service fee guarantee a visa or job?

No. Employers decide whom to hire and the relevant authority decides the visa or permit. Ask about service deliverables and refund conditions before accepting a quotation.

Does permission to work in Serbia cover other European countries?

Do not treat a Serbia programme as a general European work authorisation. For a different destination, check that country’s official route and your eligibility separately.
